Carpathian Convention COP7 – announcement

The 7th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians (Carpathian Convention COP7) will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, from 11th to 13th October 2023.

The Conference will gather high-level representatives from the seven State Parties to the Convention, along with numerous stakeholders from the region, Europe, and the international community. The purpose of this gathering, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Carpathian Convention, is to reflect upon the extensive journey of the Convention, its notable achievements, challenges faced, and the envisioned path forward. This Conference holds immense significance in shaping the future of the Carpathian region and, by extension, influencing environmental protection and sustainable development across Europe and the entire planet.

In this regard, the Observers and stakeholders of the Carpathian Convention are cordially invited to attend the Carpathian Convention COP7, including its High-Level Segment and gala dinner.

The High-Level Segment will primarily focus on the triple planetary crisis in the Carpathians, with a particular emphasis on the biodiversity crisis and the solutions developed within the framework of the Carpathian Convention. It will highlight key initiatives such as the Carpathian Biodiversity Framework with its corresponding Carpathian Vision 2050, as well as the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Alpine Convention, and the Carpathian Convention for the better implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in the Carpathians and other mountain regions. Furthermore, the conference will address the issues of climate change and pollution in the Carpathians.
