Capacity-Building event on Ecological Connectivity within the ForestConnect Project

Ensuring ecological connectivity and the functionality of migration corridors remains a significant challenge for nature conservation authorities, particularly in the context of infrastructure development and landscape fragmentation. To support practitioners in addressing these issues, WWF Slovakia organised a specialised training course within the ForestConnect project on 20 November 2025 in Žilina.

The event brought together 75 participants, including representatives of district environmental departments and other qualified professionals involved in nature and landscape protection. Experts from state administration, academia, the private sector and WWF Slovakia provided comprehensive insights into current knowledge on ecological corridors, practical approaches to identifying and assessing migration routes, spatial planning processes and relevant legislative frameworks.

The high level of engagement and positive feedback from participants underscore the need for continued capacity-building efforts. Strengthening expertise in this field is essential for maintaining ecological connectivity and supporting effective nature conservation across the Carpathian region.
