The Secretariat of the Carpathian Convention is pleased to announce the Connecting Nature Regional Conference, the final event of the ForestConnect project, to be held on 27–28 May 2026 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in a hybrid format.

About the Conference:

As part of the ForestConnect capacity-building, transferability, and dissemination activities, the conference offers a dynamic platform for researchers, practitioners, NGO representatives, protected area managers, and authorities to share knowledge and practical experience on strengthening forest connectivity in the context of changing climate conditions.

Participants will present and contextualize the project’s innovative solutions, including:

  • Transnational methodologies and guidelines
  • The International Strategic Action Plan (SAP) on climate-resilient forest management
  • Technological applications developed under the project
  • Opportunities for alignment with National Nature Restoration Plans and regional policy implementation

The conference also aims to catalyse the further uptake of these results, rendering them more actionable and relevant — by refining alignments with national planning processes, informing policy implementation, and inspiring scalable adaptations across the region. It represents an important step in ensuring that the knowledge and tools developed through ForestConnect continue to inform forest and biodiversity governance in the Carpathian, Dinaric, and Balkan mountain regions.

Read and Share the Strategic Action Plan:

A central outcome of the ForestConnect project is the Strategic Action Plan on Adaptation Actions and Climate Resilience-Enhancing Forest Management Practices for Protected Areas (SAP). The SAP provides concrete, transnational guidance for improving ecological corridors and habitats for the migration of large carnivores across the Carpathian, Dinaric, and Balkan Mountains.

The Carpathian Convention Secretariat encourages all partners, networks, and stakeholders to read, share, and promote the SAP within their professional communities and institutional channels.
