The Carpathian Convention Secretariat is delighted to extend a warm invitation to stakeholders invested in biodiversity conservation to participate in the 15th Meeting of the Carpathian Convention Working Group on Biodiversity.

The meeting will take place 17-18 June 2024 in Vienna, Austria, and will discuss crucial topics and inform collaborative efforts aimed at safeguarding the region’s ecological integrity:

  • Large Carnivores: The implementation of the Action Plan on the conservation of large carnivores and the promotion of ecological connectivity in the region will be a focus. Progress of initiatives such as the LECA project, aimed at supporting the coexistence and conservation of Carpathian LargE CArnivores, will be shared. Additionally, recent decisions of the CMS COP14 pertaining to the conservation of the Carpathian lynx will be discussed, providing valuable insights into ongoing conservation efforts.
  • Carpathian Biodiversity Framework: The meeting will address the integration of the Global Biodiversity Framework into the Carpathian context via the Carpathian Biodiversity Framework adopted at the Carpathian Convention COP7. Processes for streamlining this framework into revised national biodiversity strategies and action plans will be discussed.
  • Biodiversity-related projects and activities: The agenda also includes discussions on various projects and activities relevant to the work of the Working Group on Biodiversity. This includes a consultation session on the activities of the NaturaConnect project, which aims to build a resilient ecological network of conserved areas across Europe for the benefit of both nature and people.

For those interested in participating, registration is open until Monday, 15 May 2024. Registration must be completed via the online registration form.
