Strengthening Alpine–Carpathian Cooperation: Central Mountains Project Meeting in Vienna

On 16 December, partners of the Interreg Central Europe Central Mountains project gathered at the Vienna International Centre (Vienna, Austria) for a dialogue with representatives of the Alpine and Carpathian Conventions.

The meeting provided an important platform to exchange knowledge, present project results, and explore pathways for stronger transnational governance across mountain regions.

The programme opened with key expert contributions:

🔹CIPRA International presented the “Alpine-Carpathian toolbox for active involvement of citizens and youth in decision making processes”.
🔹ISIG – Istituto di Sociologia Internazionale di Gorizia gave us an overview on the planning, implementation and monitoring of pilot actions.
This was followed by a series of presentations on solutions for transnational governance developed from the pilot actions:
🔹QueSiTe s.r.l., representing Alpine Pearls, presented the new governance model developed within the project.
🔹The Карпатський Фонд / Carpathian Foundation presented the Carpathian Civil Society Platform, a structure for Carpathian Civil Society Organizations to engage and cooperate across borders.
🔹ZMOS showcased the new application for the promotion of sustainable tourism in the PL/SK border area.
🔹Brasov County gave us an overview of the new Cross-Border Working Teams of the Carpathian Sustainable Tourism platform.

The meeting concluded with an interactive session, where participants provided valuable feedback on project outputs and discussed opportunities for policy uptake at regional and transnational levels.

The Carpathian Convention Secretariat expresses its appreciation to all partners, as well as to the Alpine Convention and Institute for Regional Development EURAC, for their continued cooperation and commitment to sustainable development in mountain regions.
